Day 7 (Saturday, May 20, 2023) - Mykonos, Greece, Celebrity Beyond 12 night Mediterranean Cruise

 Day 7 - Mykonos, Greece (May 20, 2023)

We had a super early tour this morning because Celebrity changed our itinerary and we were only staying in Mykonos until 4 pm rather than 5 pm. Kensington changed our tour from 9 am to 8 am instead so we ordered room service (included without a service charge for suite guests – otherwise there’s now a delivery charge) the night before and Teo brought our breakfast to us which we ate out on our veranda. One thing that’s super consistent is that whenever we order room service, it’s almost never exactly what we ordered. I’ve not figured out why but cruise ships always think we need more food than we order. I had ordered over medium fried eggs with sausage and got extra bacon. We had a 3rd plate with an omelet and extra meat that we didn’t order. I got the “frosted flakes” but they definitely weren’t Kellogg’s. I was glad, however, to see that Celebrity now offered lactose free milk.

We met up with the group at Fine Cut steakhouse for priority tender service – this was a perk for suite guests where we didn’t have to get a tender ticket nor wait in line to get on a tender. It was like the old Fast Pass system at Disney. We arrived into New Port in Mykonos which was a good distance away from the Old Port or City Center. Fortunately, our tour guide met us here with our driver/car because other passengers who weren’t on a Celebrity tour had to purchase a ticket on a boat to take them to Mykonos Town.

We met our guide Anastasia and the driver (never did get his name), dropped us off near Mykonos Town. Unfortunately, Kensington didn’t let Anastasia know that Lisa was using a walker. When I had first booked with Kensington, I had notified them after Lisa’s back surgery that we would need accommodations for a wheel chair. They were able to make some changes to our itinerary but I found it disappointing that Anastasia said she had no idea. Also, Wade changed his mind about spreading some of Charlie’s ashes at the beach which Kensington had worked into our itinerary. I had emailed them about the change and they told me to simply let the guide know which ended up being an issue because (1) Anastasia told us she was “done” at 2 pm and (2) that the driver was busy between noon and 2 when we were supposed to be at the beach.

The streets in Mykonos were much better than in Santorini but they were still difficult with a lot of uneven surfaces and stairs. This is an issue with most of the Mediterranean, no accommodations for any disability – the streets are so old and usually hard to navigate. We did still enjoy the beautiful water in Mykonos, the wind mills, and the gorgeous bougainvillea.

We dropped Lisa and Wade off back at the tender port so they could return to the ship and then Anastasia took us to a monastery. Here was yet another disappointment with this tour – I had to pay the 6 Euro entrance fee. Anastasia was a bit wishy washy about our itinerary which was supposed to include a Folklore museum, House of Lena museum, and end at a tavern for a sampling of “mezes and wine tasting”. We ended up going to a small town to see Delos from across the water and then just headed back to the tender port around noon. It was a very strange and unsatisfying tour.

We got back to the Beyond and had lunch at Raw on 5 which was delicious again. I spent the afternoon doing some work and catching up on my vacation blog up on the Retreat Sun Deck.

We had dinner reservations at Le Voyage and were pleased that they seated us in the same private room we were in for the Chef’s Table. The staff at Le Voyage remembered us from the other night. Dinner was really good – the same issue came up as we had at Eden – we didn’t do the tasting menu and opted, instead for the regular menu but were allowed to order 2 appetizers, an entree, and a dessert. Everything I had was great. Even the shrimp dish that I had originally ordered and then changed because it had coriander in it (I’m a cilantro hater), they remade without the coriander and brought one for me to try. Now that’s above and beyond and a definite benefit of the individual kitchens that each restaurant has. We toasted Charlie this evening – it was the 2nd anniversary since he left us. We went to the 9:30 pm showing of the singer that Wade raved about – he was very talented and flamboyant – we could totally see why Wade loved him so much.
